The Technological Growth of Today's Leader(s)

WHOA doesn't begin to explain the whirl wind of learning that I gained these past few weeks.

Upon enrolling in LEST 820, I felt pretty good about my understanding of technology and its multiple facets.  But to be quite honest, I was taken back when I was introduced and/or re-introduce to Wiki, audacity, blogging, technology planning, technological infrastructures, and etc...

I truly had to put my thinking cap back on and re-evaluate how I viewed technology, especially from a leadership perspective.  Each assigned chapter in Oz, opened my eyes to situations that I never considered and/or to new ways of thinking and doing. Even more useful was the F2F activities that we were engaged in.

But as a leader using, learning and empowering with technologies in the 21st Century, I would like to share what a colleague at Kansas State University told me.  They said that,

" Administrators need a host of skills... There are a small number of administrators who consider themselves technology leaders. Few will admit that they know all there is to know about technology leadership. The quest for understanding technology leadership and technology integration appears to be a lifelong rather than a short journey." (Gerald Bailey)

So in conclusion, I'm confident to say that I have learned more than I came in the course knowing. That was the goal, right? LEST 820 was awesome, but we all must remember that we're in this thing called technology for a life time.

ENJOY the ride!

  1. I loved the comment about "each assigned chapter in Oz" because I have often felt like 'we weren't in Kansas anymore'. I am excited about using the WIKI with my students rather than just the messages section of Blackboard with my students. Also, the ability to create a homepage in Blackboard will be most helpful in knowing who my students are, especially when they are on-line students. Comfort and knowledge of technology is a life-long persuit. It seems that it changes daily and to keep up is going to be a challenge. With being able to develop a positive attitude from this class and the professor, keeping up or the desire to keep up should be something we want to do because we understand the importance of it.

  2. Sue,

At the end of each day, it's all about what we've learned and what we instilled in others, right?

    Best,
    Robert
